Gilles Deleuze, Cinema 1, chapter 2, “Frame and shot, framing and cutting. The second level: shot and movement”

Proceeding from last month’s reading, March’s meeting will continue the discussion of Gilles Deleuze’s Cinema 1. Moving from an exploration of the frame or framing–both its function and a consideration of its out-of-fied–Deleuze will now analyze the shot and movement, as in cutting, in relation to the parts of a set and to the whole of a film. And, while this sounds very heavy indeed, it’s not so much when we all get together. Interested parties are encouraged to jump into the reading at any point and to draw strange connections to their practice, be it film or not.
